Building Defects
Regardless of if you have a new build, an addition or renovation reaching completion, it is important that you have a close look at the finished product to ensure that all of the contracted works have been finished to a satisfactory level by the final handover. If you have spotted shortfalls in the works yourself and the contractor has not or will not fulfil their duty to fix these issues, it may be the beginning of a lengthy dispute.
If these issues can’t be resolved between yourself and the contractor, a Building Defects Inspection can be carried out to identify all of the ‘problem areas’ in one document which can be used to illustrate what needs to be rectified with your builder/contractor before the contract is finalised. All issues are evaluated against the relevant Australian Standards and Codes, with them being deemed compliant or non-compliant. Any non-compliant issues will be closely examined during the inspection and accompanied by a rectification method in the report.
